It's been an explosively creative year! Here’s a quick rundown of what’s been going on. . . The year saw me stretch into new areas of creative expression – blasting into totally new territory for me – in addition to creating installations, drawings and paintings, I pushed myself to explore performance, video, music, spoken word, sound and dance - combining many of these disciplines with the intent to create more experiential expressions of my ideas. I’ll give you a quick rundown. . . Just over a year ago, I put Matteo on a plane for Paris and used the two weeks he was away as a self-imposed Artist Residency @ Chez Moi.  During that time I created several new pastels, prints and drawings. In July I premiered my very first…

2011 Terra Temporalis Series: Pastel on Recycled Newspaper

Drawing, Eco Art, Painting
[slideshow]This is the new series of pastels created this spring on recycled newspaper from some journals made long ago by the John Rossi Paper Co.  There are in fact, little flecks of recycled newspapers - stock quotes, words, etc.  Due to the transient nature of all things - especially news and newspaper - these works have been incorporated into the "Terra Temporalis" lineage of creative pieces that were begun in 2011.

Rust Belt of America Series

Drawing, Painting, Work on Paper
This series began in the early nineties as a multi-media visual journal of my travels through the Rust Belt of America. Documenting the declining industrial cities located throughout Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio, as well as Pennsylvania, I discovered some very ominous sites - some abandoned, some active and some protected by watchmen who had very little respect for anyone with a camera coming around the property. This is a selection of the large scale charcoal drawings I produced soon after my return to Housatonic. . . . . . . . . . . Ste. MEDITATIONS WITH FIRE: The Torched Linen Paintings of the Nineties by Gabrielle Senza

Painting, Uncategorized
Great Barrington, MA Simon's Rock College of Bard will host "MEDITATIONS WITH FIRE: The Torched Linen Paintings of Gabrielle Senza" at the Library Atrium Gallery from 22 January through 17 March, 2007. Featuring work created in the early 1990's, Ms. Senza states, "The torched linen series was started as a counterpoint to the series of highly representational industrial landscape paintings I was in the process of creating for a solo show near Detroit back in 1993. Rendering architectural structures in oil paint on steel was very demanding, and the need for a looser form of creative expression was great. "Experimenting with the basic tools of a plumber (propane torch, stiff aluminum brush and a tin of soldering flux), I blindly engaged in intuitive mark making on torn bits of raw…
