How Co-Working Power Hours Transformed My Workweek

BLOG, Uncategorized
For many years, I struggled with time management. I would diligently block off hours in my calendar for important tasks—the ones I knew I needed to get done but kept putting off. And yet, time and time again, I’d ignore those scheduled blocks. I barely noticed when I skipped them, but I felt the weight of those unfinished tasks piling up. Then I spotted a pattern. While I routinely missed solo work sessions, I never missed a scheduled meeting or collaborative session with other people. If someone was expecting me to show up, I showed up—100% of the time. That realization sparked an idea: What if I created a space where I wasn’t working alone? Enter: Weekday Morning Co-Working Power Hours. The concept was simple: I invited a few friends…

Stitching the World Back Together: Reflecting on 9/11

Drawing, Work on Paper, Writing
September 11, 2001, is a date forever etched into our collective consciousness. That morning, as I, like millions of people around the world, watched the devastation unfold in real-time, I felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness. We were in shock, experiencing the raw edges of fear and sorrow. As an artist, when words fail me, my hands take over. In the days that followed the attacks, I found myself gravitating towards materials I didn't typically use in my work—heavy watercolor paper and a needle threaded with red. The two pieces that emerged from that time were made from torn pieces of paper, stitched back together with red thread. It felt as though my ancestors were guiding me, as if they knew I needed this small, meditative task. It became a…

Berkshire Artist Talks About Experience on Antarctic Glacier “A Prayer for Antarctica” trance performance by Gabrielle Senza at Neko Harbor, Antarctica, 2022. Video still by Dan Ruderman.  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW MARLBOROUGH, MA: Crawling on a glacier in a long white gown may sound like a scene in a bizarre dream, but for artist Gabrielle Senza, it was a sobering reality. In 2022, American artist, Gabrielle Senza found herself performing “A Prayer for Antarctica” in a trance state at Neko Harbor in Antarctica as nearby ice shelves collapsed into the sea.  Possessed by a dress that has mysteriously urged her to perform many strange and unusual acts since the mid-eighties, Gabrielle calls this long white gown, Terra Luna. The artist states, “While I can’t claim to understand Terra Luna, I have learned to trust…

Co-Working Power Hours for Creatives!

Co-Working Power Hours for Creatives!

Community, Studio Update
Are you tired of working remotely by yourself? Wish you had people around who are also working remotely? Or maybe, like me, you get distracted easily and lose track of time as you mindlessly scroll through social media or attempt to empty your inbox, rather than doing the thing you had intended to do? One of the only reliable ways I've found that gets me out of this rut, is having the responsibility to show up for other human beings at a certain time and in a certain place. So to accomplish this, I've come up with a solution: Co-Working Power Hours for Creatives! We meet 9-11AM EST Monday through Friday via Zoom.To start, during the first 15 minutes of each session, we share our intentions, then we mute our…

Gabrielle Senza, video still from work in progress. Hello, Dear One ~I’ve missed you.I’ve worried about you.And have thought about you often. What has this year been like for you? What changes have occurred in your life? What challenges, silver linings, or discoveries have you encountered? What losses have you endured? Most of all, I want to know, are you well? Are you happy? Are you safe?Last January, I was beginning my thesis on the phenomenon of social and physical invisibility, when a deadly invisible virus began circling the globe. COVID-19 not only halted life as we knew it, the worldwide pause also revealed the invisible pandemic of racism to many who had not yet noticed - or refused to acknowledge it.Suddenly (and finally) everybody was willing to talk about the impacts of implicit systems of…
