It's been an explosively creative year! Here’s a quick rundown of what’s been going on. . . The year saw me stretch into new areas of creative expression – blasting into totally new territory for me – in addition to creating installations, drawings and paintings, I pushed myself to explore performance, video, music, spoken word, sound and dance - combining many of these disciplines with the intent to create more experiential expressions of my ideas. I’ll give you a quick rundown. . . Just over a year ago, I put Matteo on a plane for Paris and used the two weeks he was away as a self-imposed Artist Residency @ Chez Moi.  During that time I created several new pastels, prints and drawings. Drawing on the wall By Jeremy D. Goodwin, Special to the Eagle, Thursday November 10, 2011 PITTSFIELD -- Fine art is often seen as an attempt -- even if a vain one -- to achieve permanence, a contribution to the artistic tradition that will influence and inspire future generations. But for Housatonic artist Gabrielle Senza, much of the meaning in her latest work is derived directly from its impermanence. "Terra Temporalis," Senza's new installation at Y Bar in Pittsfield, is a drawing of a natural landscape that will exist in the world for exactly one year, before the artist paints over it and replaces it with another site-specific piece concerning a similar theme. In fact, Y Bar proprietor Jim Benson has commissioned Senza to create three successive artworks on the…

Terra Temporalis: Ethereal Art at the Everhart Museum in Scranton, PA

Drawing, Installation, museum, News + Events
TERRA TEMPORALIS is a large-scale site-specific wall drawing created with graphite powder applied directly to the 11 x 17 foot wall with my bare hands over a 12 day period in August of 2011. The drawing will be painted out at the end of December.  When informed, many museum visitors had strong visceral reactions to the idea that this work will be destroyed in a matter of months. I ask:  How is my drawing any more important than the rivers, forests and lives that are being destroyed every single day by human hands?       Read more about the project here.
