A Celebration

Honoring

Ruth Ann Harnisch

An Audio Visual Thank You Message

How can I express my gratitude…

for a patron? A patron who is so in awe of my In/Visibility Lab project, that she agreed to help fund the next phase of this international transdisciplinary creative research platform?

Phase 1: Research

I’ve been talking with people about invisibility since 2016, collecting their stories, wishes, fears and dreams. More than 500 people have participated from around the world. All of their responses are preserved on paper and recorded in a spreadsheet.

Phase 2: Analysis

Ruth Ann stepped in to support the project development and data analysis phase. I used this time to identify potential collaborators, artist residencies, and hosting venues, as well as searching for additional funding needed to handle the technical elements in Phase 3 and the production costs in Phase 4.

Phase 3: Transformation

This is the exciting part. Each of the responses to the survey questions will be translated into specific sounds based on the particular emotional frequencies of their answers. Those frequencies will then be assigned a tempo, note, and sound. All of the contributions submitted by In/Visibility Lab participants will be represented aurally in a 23-part musical score, and visually through interactive multimedia formats.

Phase 4: Presentation

This musical score will ultimately be used as the foundation for further creations, including a staged theatrical performance with spoken word, video, and dance; as well as site-specific interactive multimedia experiences for museums and galleries. These, as well as our ongoing Labs, workshops, performance lectures, and conceptual artwork, will continue to provide opportunities for sharing and understanding these common experiences, fostering both empathy and connection among diverse audiences.

Thank you, Ruth Ann.

This audio visual message was created just for you. Each letter represents a musical note which is heard when the animated dot bounces across the tops of each one. In the background are video clips from In/Visibility Labs held in Berlin when it first launched in 2017, followed by a performance lecture in Lisbon, and more recently, a three month art and sound installation at ArtYard in Frenchtown, NJ.
It has been an amazing ride, and with people like you, it just keeps getting better!
✨ Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. ✨
